Born in Belgium, Gaston Rebry came to Canada in 1953 at the age of twenty. Accustomed to the pastoral landscapes of his homeland, the Canadian wilderness made a great impression on him. He became familiar with Tom Tomson and the Group of Seven whose work also had a strong influence on him. Their understanding and portrayal of landscape inspired and stimulated him in the development of his own unique style. Winter and fall are Rebry’s favourite seasons for painting, finding little inspiration in the uniform green of summer. He has exhibited across Canada with great success and his works are found in private and corporate collections at home and abroad.
