Larry Rosso Wanted for Purchase or Consignment

(1944)

Larry Rosso was born in 1944 in Burns Lake, British Columbia. His family is from the village of Fort Babine and the Lake Babine band of the Carrier nation. Larry began carving under the direction of his grandfather who was a canoe carver.
Larry became involved with the Northwest Coast Indian Cultural Society, the Indian Arts and Crafts Society of British Columbia and the Northwest Coast Artist Guild. The Guild released two series of prints which were critical to establishing the Northwest Coast print market. Larry saw the need to have an artist involved in the production of prints and this led to his purchase of Screencraft Printing Ltd., which produced prints for many local artists. Larry also trained twelve artists in two-dimensional design and tool making.
Larry made the decision to return to Lake Babine and assist in the development of the community. During this time, he continued to carve and built a strong reputation as an artist.
In 1987, he returned to the coast to concentrate on carving full time. He apprenticed himself to Haida master carver, Robert Davidson, and assisted Robert on numerous commissions and projects. Larry expanded his design knowledge to include Haida and northern styles. He has also honed his sculptural techniques through the teaching of Robert Davidson.
