To the average person, it may appear to be just a bowl of fruit or an arrangement of flowers in a vase. To Vivian Thierfelder, it is a fascinating juxtaposition of shapes, colour, and texture, representing pure inspiration. This world-renowned artist has been exhibiting her work for 37 years. Vivian Thierfelder received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta in 1970. After working in the graphics industry for several years, she decided in 1983 to pursue fine art as her full-time occupation. Over her career, she explored various media, including oils, egg tempera and acrylics, before settling on transparent watercolour, the medium which best suited her style. As a gardener as well as an artist, she has found that still life, painted in a well-defined realist style, gives her the greatest satisfaction. It is only natural for her to paint the flowers and produce grown on her own acreage, which she prefers to paint in supersaturated colours to create rich hues, representative of her varying subjects.
