Fine Art Commissions By Luther Pokrant

Born in 1947 in the southwestern Manitoba town of Rosenfeld, Luther Pokrant graduated with his BFA from the University of Manitoba in 1969. He received his MA from New Mexico State University in 1970.

His work often includes thematic and historical illustration of a composite nature. He carried out a series of portraits of well-known Canadian artists in this vein, including members of the Group of Seven, Walter J. Phillips, Leo Mol and others. These portrait compositions are a collage of the artist's lives, Pokrant's tribute to these artists who have helped to shape the Canadian art landscape. (See "Brightland" portrait of Arthur Lismer, below right)

In 2004, he undertook a series of paintings based on iconic Canadian paintings of the 20th century. Painted in his own distinct style, and including subtle additions of his own, these oil on canvas paintings are carefully based on the compositions of great works by the Group of Seven, Emily Carr and their contemporaries. (see "Winter, Charlevoix County and Northland 1915 below left and centre)

Since his debut exhibition in 1969, Pokrant has shown extensively. His work is represented in private and corporate collections such as , Shell Canada, James Richardson & Sons, Cargill Grain, and the CIBC, to mention a few.
