Vojtech Matousek was born in Czechoslovakia in 1936, where he began his art training. Upon his arrival in Canada, he embraced the Canadian landscape and made it his own. He is well known for his paintings of the Whiteshell and Birds hill areas as well as Winnipeg city streets. He has worked with pen, pencil, oils, and acrylics but watercolours represent the greatest challenge to him. The transparent sparkle of this medium bring a vibrating life to his work without sacrificing the unique craftsmanship of his drawing. Matousek's paintings have been featured in one-man and joint exhibitions from 1978 to the present. He is represented in private and corporate collections across Canada.
