Born in Brussels, Belgium in1809, Vanseverdonck studied at the Museum School of Art in Bucharest where he later served as an instructor of design and modeling. He specialized in the lifelike depiction of domestic animals in rural landscapes after the manner of Verboeckhoven. His genre scenes indicate an appreciation of the beauty of the country landscape, coupled with a respect for the dignity of the ordinary farm animal. Vanseverdonck died in Brussels in 1889.
